Hallowe'en Workshop
Clay Mask Making: Inspired by Celtic Samhain
Sign Up: Clay Mask Making: Inspired by Celtic Samhain (opens in a new tab)Ever wondered why we wear costumes at Hallowe'en? The tradition has roots stretching back to Samhain (pronounced sow-in), the ancient Celtic festival marking the transition from harvest into the darker half of the year. For centuries, masks and disguises have been part of Irish and Celtic traditions around this time of year.
Join NAPS founder Lauren for a special three-hour ceramic mask-making workshop celebrating this tradition. Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, Lauren wanted to bring a little of her Celtic heritage to our corner of Los Angeles for an evening of clay, folklore, and making.
Using handbuilding and sculpting techniques, you'll create your own ceramic mask. Take inspiration from Celtic folklore, mask-making traditions from your own heritage, a favorite creature or character, or simply your imagination.
This workshop is completely beginner-friendly and no previous clay experience is needed. We provide the clay, tools, and instruction, then glaze and fire your finished piece. Your mask will be ready for pickup roughly three to four weeks after the workshop.
